Main-prize cash alternatives for competitions

raffleWP lets you advertise a fixed cash alternative for selected main-prize positions. Eligible winners privately choose the advertised prize or its cash alternative, while you retain the original offer, choice history and fulfilment record.

What you can do

Advertise the offer before entry

Set a positive cash amount against a specific main-prize position. Use different amounts for different positions, or leave positions without an alternative.

Keep the advertised offer stable

The offer locks after the first successful ticket reservation or confirmed postal entry. Cancellation does not unlock it, and earlier competitions cannot receive an offer retrospectively.

Keep the winner’s choice private

The winner explicitly chooses through a private claim. Public results describe the advertised prize, while the selected alternative remains in the operational record.

Example: a prize with a £1,000 alternative

Suppose the first prize is a camera package with an advertised £1,000 cash alternative. Before opening the competition, add £1,000 against main-prize position one and describe the choice clearly on the competition page. This is an illustrative setup, not a claim about a live customer competition.

  1. Publish the prize and alternative before accepting entries. Once the first reservation succeeds or a postal entry is confirmed, the offer is locked.
  2. Select or record the eligible main winner. The award creates a private claim; automatic invitations follow your configured invitation setting. You can send the claim link from admin when needed.
  3. The winner chooses “Advertised prize” or “Cash alternative”. A physical-prize choice requests delivery details; a cash choice confirms contact details.
  4. Arrange the chosen fulfilment. Pay cash outside raffleWP and mark the claim complete only after the real payment is arranged and completed.

Control changes without losing the history

Before dispatch or completion, an administrator can reopen a submitted choice and record a reason. The earlier choice remains in private history. If you redraw an award, the new winner receives a fresh claim cycle and the earlier access is invalidated.

The Prize Value report separates selected and completed cash alternatives by currency. Selected totals include completed choices. These are operational totals; they do not replace the actual prize costs entered in the competition planner or automatically adjust estimated profit.

A duplicated competition or reusable preset copies the offer into a fresh draft without copying the entry lock. Check its prize, amount and dates before launching the next promotion.

Common questions

Does raffleWP send the cash payment?

No. Cash payments remain manual. The claim form does not collect bank details; arrange payment through your own appropriate process and record completion afterwards.

Can I add an alternative after tickets have been reserved?

No. Offers lock on the first successful reservation or confirmed postal entry. A cancellation does not reopen the offer, and existing entry history prevents retrospective additions.

Can instant prizes have these alternatives?

This feature applies to selected main-prize positions. Instant-prize definitions are unchanged. An original main prize already configured as cash cannot also offer a cash alternative.

Can everyone see which option the winner chose?

No. The choice remains private. Public results continue to describe the advertised prize.
